The Advisory Council shares responsibility between the Christian Brothers and the College communities in policy making processes.
The Advisory Council also serves to enhance and further, through education, the principles and values inherent in the Edmund Rice Tradition.
It is important to note that the Advisory Council does not have a role in the day to day management and operation of the College, that role remains the responsibility of the College Principal and Leadership Team. Additionally the activities of the Board are separate and distinct from those of the various support groups to the College such as the P & F, Mothers Group and Old Boys.
As the majority of the Advisory Council members and the members of the committees are drawn from the College community there is a real opportunity for the community to actively and practically participate in the shaping of the strategic direction of the College.
The responsibilities of the Advisory Council are broad and cover following facets of the College:
These responsibilities typically involve the following activities:
Development of strategic and business plans for the College
In the process, generations of young men have achieved personal success socially, physically and academically in a Christian culture. The St Edmund’s College Foundation was established to assist the College Board in raising funds to maintain and improve the facilities and operations of St Edmund’s College in accordance with the Master Plan and to develop the broader interests of the College community.
The Foundation is an avenue through which the entire College community – current parents, past parents, old boys, members of staff, friends and supporters – can support the College’s aim to create a pathway of growth for its students. This support will ensure that St Edmund’s students continue to become those people who make a difference in society, in whatever capacity they live and work.
The Parents and Friends (P&F) Association of St Edmund’s College was formed in 1963. It fulfills several important and vital roles within the College Community, including:
The P&F meets once a term and the date is advertised in the College Newsletter. All are welcome to attend. Meetings are open to any member of the College Community. By attending meetings (even if it is only for one meeting) you can voice your concerns and suggestions, and can be involved in the decision making processes within the College.
